Tāniko Mai Le Alofa is the name of the initiative inspired by the intertwining of threads, Tāniko mai le alofa is a collaborative project that brings together gender diverse Māori and Pasifika LGBTQIA+, Takatāpui and Rainbow+ peoples to create a collective tangible expression of identity.

Tāniko Mai Le Alofa was curated by Jade Jeffares, taking eight weeks to make with collective, creative touch from everyone that visited The Rainbow Hub HB. Full of meaning and representation, a rainbow to represents the rainbow community, pastel blue and pink for our trans community. raffia symbolising houses and safety in protection, weaving with threads and tapa cloth speaks to culture, paua shell connecting us to the pacific, to the moana.

In 2024, Tāniko Mai Le Alofa will become part of the Manalagi Project, a group exhibition of collaborative Rainbow Community art works to be shown at Te Papa.
